Hi, I’m Danny
A LEADING PERSONAL TRAINER & FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE NUTRITIONIST FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES.
In 2021, I was named the youngest Director of Training at Embody Fitness, an award-winning London body-transformation gym where I helped hundreds of clients with fat loss, muscle building and long-term behaviour change.

Typical weight loss methods may work in the short run but never seem to provide long-lasting results. Ever wonder why that is?
WHAT IF THERE WAS SOMETHING BIGGER TO FOCUS ON?
The latest results from the Direct Trial showed that only 10% of the participants who lost between 10-15kg and had achieved remission, were still in remission at year 5.
Most of them had gained some weight back and their diabetes came back also…
Bog standard weight loss advice rarely works for most people in the long run….
The journey (and that conversation) that helped me realise I had been getting it all wrong...
In 2013, after a long 10 years of chasing to become a professional footballer, I finally admitted defeat when I got struck down with yet another injury. It was the final nail in the coffin which made me finally hang up my boots and at that point, I decided to join the fitness and health industry as a personal trainer.
For the first 5 years, I thoroughly enjoyed helping clients become fitter and stronger but I was stuck.
After being taught that eating carbs raises insulin levels and causes weight/fat gain, I decided to try it out on myself during my fitness modelling days and with clients too.
The result? Fantastic short term results, but I was moody, irritable and so were the clients that I had adopt the same approach.
Needless to say that it was far from the sustainable approach that me and my clients were looking for..
In 2018, my client hit rock bottom...
Roman, who I had not spoken to for about a couple of years after we worked together messaged me and said “Danny, I need to come back and train with you”.
He lost 25kg with me and came off all his medication using the low carb diet but gained ALL the weight back…
It was a combination of life and family events which had gotten the better of him he said. His discipline went out the window and he lost his consistency with his nutrition and exercise.
Not knowing any better, I put him back on the low carb plan that had worked for us in the past.
In 2019, I had THAT conversation…
After deciding to retrain as a functional medicine nutritionist to learn more about the human body, during one class the professor said one sentence that I will never forget…
He said “removing or reducing carbohydrates from the diet does not improve insulin sensitivity”..
Absolutely bewildered, I hung back after the class to find out exactly what he meant.
I ended up taking up our whole lunch break listening intently as he explained to me the paradox that continuums can have if we don’t understand the underlying physiology of something…
He explained that whilst carbohydrates do raise insulin levels, it isn’t what causes insulin resistance.
“Insulin resistance is not a problem of over-consuming carbs so taking it away doesn’t actually improve insulin sensitivity”
There is a huge difference between being less insulin resistant and becoming more insulin sensitive.
Just like how watching tv after coming home from a long day of constant sympathetic stimulus (emails, deadlines, traffic) is not the same thing as doing things like meditation, diaphragmatic breathing, reading, walks in nature, hobbies, deep human connection…which actually activates the parasympathetic nervous system.
On the way home that day I couldn’t stop thinking about our conversation and my new epiphany:
Going low carb might help with weight loss, but there’s two fundamental issues with it
It doesn’t maximise insulin sensitivity
It’s very hard to sustain in the long-term.
I spent the next year figuring out how I was going to best serve my clients.
I searched high and low, from reading scientific papers to finding more professors to interview, to discussing openly with my clients..
I looked at all the diabetes remission studies available and made it my purpose to understand how to achieve remission forever and came up with

QUESTION: HOW MUCH TIME WILL I NEED TO SPEND ON THIS PROGRAM?
Answer: Great question! As you can imagine, this answer will vary from individual to individual. However, outside of our weekly calls (which will generally take 20-30 minutes), I recommend devoting anywhere between 2-5 hours per week to exercise, roughly 1-2 hours per week to nutrition admin, and up to 45 minutes on additional tasks/watching educational videos. Remember, more is not ALWAYS better, how effective you can be with your time is usually more important!
QUESTION: ARE YOU TRAINED TO INTERPRET BLOOD TEST RESULTS?
Answer: Yes! I am a fully qualified and insured certified functional medicine practitioner and I can guide you on any tests that we might want to use to support your goals (discount on tests available). Or I can receive your test results from your doctor and firstly, help you understand them and secondly, use them to form your nutrition/supplementation/lifestyle strategy.
QUESTION: WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO GO AWAY ON HOLIDAY?
Answer: As counter-intuitive as it may seem, I actually welcome you to take small trips whilst on the program! A lifestyle WILL include things like holidays and part of my job is to help you get clear on the mindset and nutritional strategies when facing an upcoming trip. I will walk you through clear and simple guidelines on our coaching calls to help you become more confident in this very important area.
QUESTION: WILL I NEED ACCESS TO A GYM?
Answer: In an ideal world, yes, I don't think anything can replace a fully kitted-out gym. However, it really does depend on what your starting point is and personal circumstances. I have worked with many clients who have decided to train in their living rooms first, before making the move to gym-based workouts and have gone on to achieve fantastic results. There just might be a point where you become too strong for your weights at home!
QUESTION: I HAVE DINNER WITH MY FAMILY, CAN THEY BE INCLUDED IN MY PLAN?
Answer: Of course. Within our new client intake questionnaire, I make sure I fully understand exactly where you are with your nutrition right now. On our first coaching call, we identify how we can make this process as streamlined for you and your family as possible.
QUESTION: I'M FEELING ANXIOUS ABOUT MAKING A POTENTIAL INVESTMENT - HOW DO I KNOW THIS WILL WORK FOR ME?
Answer: I can't guarantee you results any more than a school can guarantee it’s students A* grades. Investing in yourself is all about believing in yourself. If you believe that you are ready to rise to the occasion then taking this investment will pay off for you BIG-TIME!
